I didn’t want to injure you, Angel.

A sigh leaves my lips as I stare at your unconscious body crumpled in the backseat where I put you moments ago. Now, that I know you’re planning on escaping, I can’t just simply stand there and let you leave. You can’t drive in the flood anyway since your panic got the best of you today.

Leaning forward, I lift a wet tendril and tuck it behind your ear. Sliding my eyes, they land on your head. You’re not bleeding. That’s a good sign. You might wake up with a concussion though, and you might hate me even more.

I rather have your hatred than your death.

I turn around and my eyes land on the flooded streets.

Something flickers in my soul that we might not reach for hours. The local streets are watered down, and the window wipers are useless even though they’ve been working overtime.

Shrugging off my thoughts, I crack my knuckles and start the engine. Raking a hand through my hair, I eye my reflection in the rearview mirror.

I’m completely soaked and my clothes cling to my body. I shrug off my jacket and throw it on the passenger seat. Cranking up the heat, I check to see if your body is hitting the warmth. I’ve removed your drenched coat too. It’s a pity your clothes are still wet but don’t worry, they’ll come off once we reach home. I’m in your driver’s seat and I already feel suffocated. The seat is pulled so close to the steering wheel that I barely have room to breathe.

Shaking my head, my lips curl up and I push it back until I can exhale. I pull out my phone and send a text to one of my men to pick up my car later tonight. Sighing in relief, I steer the car away from the sidewalk and toward the road. I keep the speed below the bare minimum. It’s a mess out there, and I can’t see anything at all. Hopefully, we don’t die today. Squinting my eyes, I turn the beams of the car to fully flash the light. I hope everyone else grows a brain and does the same.

We’re about an hour and a half from Huntington but since we’re going at the speed of a snail, we might not arrive until hours later. I turn the radio on but keep it at a low volume. The silence in the car is killing me. Swiftly, I drive quietly.

You don’t wake up through the night and I wonder if my hand had been too rough. I glance in the rearview mirror and you’re still unconscious. You’re beautiful, you know that? Your pouty lower lip sticks out more when you’re asleep, and your lips parts as you breathe out. Sliding my eyes away, I focus on the road for the remainder of the drive.

We reach our destination after 9 PM, and from what I’ve gathered, we’ve been on the road for hours.

My guards allow us entrance through the gilded silver gates and I swiftly slip through.
